Asylum Architecture and History

Taunton State Hospital
Kirkbride Buildings is a website that shares the history and architecture of several historic state asylum facilties know as the the Kirkbride buildings and includes some very beautiful and haunting images.  I came across it while researching my previous post.

Thanks for pointing out this website, I had never been to it before. I lived not far from the Danvers, Mass. State Hospital, and I've learned recently that several relatives were doctors and nurses there in the early 20th century, and that some other kin died there when it was a TB assylum, and when it was an old folks home.

Thanks for this website. I gravitate to asylums! Just one foot out of one myself these days.
